Mice Insights Avatar

You probably already know that Europeans enjoy watching sports events all year round. But do you want to find out which nationality is the most passionate about sports? Mice Insights has analyzed all available data from the European and Belgian statistical institutes (Eurostat and Statbel) to create a chart dedicated to our readers. Here are the results of the most recent surveys available, from 2022:

  1. πŸ† More than one third of people in Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands attended live sports events.Β
  2. πŸ’° In 14 EU countries, people with the highest income assisted at least twice more sports events than people in the lowest income group.
  3. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈΒ In 10 EU countries, at least 20% of people were involved in some formal sports and outdoor voluntary activities.

Eurostat does not record ticket sales for matches, but it did collect data on the participation of EU citizens in sporting events over a 12-month period in 2022.

Belgium is among the seven countries with the highest participation rate. Still, we cannot forget that the COVID-19 pandemic may have been a limiting factor during this period.

So, which country has the highest attendance rate for sporting events in Europe? And which has the lowest? Click on the interactive chart below:
